	Exhale Slowly

"Mr. Kinney, your testicular cancer has returned."

Brian's dark brows knitted together. It had been eight years since the first bout of cancer he had. Eight years since he lost one ball to the disease. Eight years since Justin had to watch him doubled-over in pain and nausea as he fought his way through chemotherapy.

Justin.

Once success had been achieved and his artwork was being proudly displayed in galleries in New York – and other places, as well, – Justin had returned to Pittsburg and settled into Britin with Brian. While they hadn't gone through with their marriage, or at least not yet, they had formed a relationship that no one had expected from either of them; they had slowly become monogamous.

Justin knew about Brian's routine visits to the doctor to be checked, though the 42-year-old man had tried to keep it from him. He hadn't ever brought it up in a conversation and had known that the appointments had gone well when Brian returned home and ravaged him in bed for the rest of the evening, which was something he never complained about.

But now? Now, Brian was at a loss for words. While there was always worry and knowledge that the disease could return, he had been lucky and healthy, keeping himself as fit as he was when he met his fiancé on the corner of Liberty Avenue. What was he going to do?

"…in your testicle, you see? It's vital that we take it as soon as possible, Brian, and put you back on chemotherapy," the doctor was saying when he finally snapped back to reality. He couldn't stand to hear it – at least not now. Not when his heart was racing and his usually-steady hands were trembling. He needed his little twat, and he needed him now.

"Thanks, Doc. Call me with the details," he said, and with those words, he took the papers he needed from the male's desk and was out of the door.

* * *

Justin's hips rocked back and forth in a steady rhythm as he stood in front of the sink, his hands plunging once more into the soapy dish washer. Music played loudly from the stereo across the room, his lips curled into a smile. Oh, the nights he had spent listening to Babylon's mix of music, rocking along with Brian. Sure, they still spent a few nights out, but they mostly enjoyed being at home with just each other's company.

"Let's hear it for the boy," Justin sang even after the music had abruptly stopped, causing him to look over his shoulder and towards the system. What he saw, though, caused his heart to wrench in his chest. Brian stood there, a defeated look across his aged, but still handsome as ever features. He placed his briefcase down on the table with a sigh and, not speaking a word, crossed the kitchen to meet the younger male. Justin placed the towel down that he had used to wipe his hands off before he curled them around his fiancé's neck, knowing that Brian needed it.

"Hard day at work?" Justin whispered as he buried his face in the male's neck, breathing in that expensive cologne that Brian had always worn. The older male just simply shook his head and heaved a sigh, causing Justin's worry to grow. Pulling back to look into those dark hues, he allowed his blond brows to furrow and a frown to form on his lips.

The silence that was met with the look lasted too long for Justin's taste. Brian avoided his blond spitfire's gaze and, with a slight grimace, opened his mouth to speak. "I, uh. Justin. Fuck," he muttered. Justin's hands moved to cup his cheeks and their gazes finally met, blue hues softening at the look on his fiancé's face. "I went to the doctor today."

"And?"

"And..Justin, they're taking my other ball."
